The mission of Friends of China (FoC) is to build relationships through educational exchange in mainland China. In 2001, FoC sent its first four English teachers to Beijing. The organization grew rapidly, and to date FoC has sent over 270 teachers to ten different cities in the mainland.
Our teachers work in dozens of classroom settings, both public and private. They also operate a few independent training schools for specialized instruction. Teachers in China have opportunities to develop meaningful relationships built on trust and cultural awareness.
Friends of China continues to recruit, train, send and support dozens of teachers every year to further this mission.
Friends of China is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. In addition, FoC employs a full-time Director, an Administrative Secretary, and a Field Coordinator who lives with his family in mainland China.

Friends of China supports a large, global team on a very lean budget. It only costs about $8000 to send a teacher for one year. FoC offers airfare, overseas health insurance, in-field worker care, training, and resources to each teacher. Host schools pay teachers a monthly salary. Any additional operating expenses are related to stateside administration, fundraising, and recruiting.
Friends of China - USA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization registered in the state of Minnesota. Our annual tax filings (Federal Form 990) and other financial reports are available for free at Guidestar.org.
